STREET OF DREAMS

SATURDAY 2.08.03: Rap, Rookies & Legends?

?That was just a taste of the action at the Street of Dreams on the sold-out Saturday of Jam Session 2003. Budding ballers started lining up outside the chain link fence at 9am for a chance to work up a sweat on the blacktop, while gamers could get in on the first public preview of the upcoming streetball game from EA SPORTS BIG, NBA STREET Vol. 2.
But it wasn't just the fans that wanted an advanced look at the game, as Rookie Challenge starter Drew Gooden of the Memphis Grizzlies stopped by the court before his practice Saturday morning for a little cyber-street hoops. After that, eleven-time All-Star legend Julius Erving kicked back for a while to take a look at his legendary appearance in the new game. Find out what Gooden and Dr. J said about the new game in Behind the Scenes.

The crowd was three-deep around the court as fans tried to get a look at the Doctor, but one trio was lucky enough to meet their hero. Da Rascalz Cru, a three-man (well, three-kid, really) rap group from Atlanta, dropped by the court after performing at Club NBA. Brothers Scrapp and Sass formed the group with their cousin Buck four years ago, and have a new album coming out this summer under the Electra Records label.

They're all big gamers, as well as huge hoop fans. Buck's favorite game is Madden NFL 2003, which he plays all the time. The features they liked best in NBA STREET Vol. 2 are dunking on each other, trash-talking, and the ally-oop. They also loved that legends like Dr. J (whose jersey Buck happened to be wearing when he met the good Doctor) are in the game.

Be sure to check out even more action from the weekend in our Jammin' Pics.
