The storied and always action-packed 19th annual EA SPORTS Maui Invitational is set to tip off November 25th. The eight-team field competing for the crown this year includes 2002 NCAA Runner-up and five-time NCAA champion Indiana; seven-time NCAA champion Kentucky; perennial NCAA Tournament competitor Gonzaga; Utah, coached by Rick Majerus; Arizona State, led by head coach Rob Evans; University of Massachusetts, with a record of 11-8 in eight NCAA Tournament appearances; Virginia, with 15 NCAA Tournament appearances; and tournament host Chaminade University. KEY MATCHUPS
Game One boasts a 20th anniversary rematch of what many experts call the greatest upset in the history of college basketball, when a small, little known Division II Hawaii school named Chaminade beat then top-ranked Virginia, led by three-time college MVP, Ralph Sampson. The winner of this memorable rematch will face the winner of Game Three, in which the rapidly improving Arizona State Sun Devils, under Head Coach Rob Evans, try to knock off the seven-time NCAA champion Kentucky Wildcats.
In the other bracket, Game Two has the University of Massachusetts tipping off against the 2002 NCAA Runner-Up and five-time NCAA champion Indiana Hoosiers. The winner of that contest faces the winner of Game Four, a battle between two perennial NCAA Tournament competitors, Gonzaga, seeking its fifth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament, and the University of Utah, led by one of college basketball's finest head coaches, Rick Majerus.
